KELLY DUANE DE LA VEGA, DIRECTOR
KELLY DUANE DE LA VEGA’s (she/her) award-winning documentaries have screened at film festivals, in theaters, and on broadcast worldwide, including on PBS and Netflix. Kelly’s work has received the WGA’s Best Documentary Screenplay Award, the Gotham Award for Best Documentary, and multiple Emmy nominations. Her 2016 film THE RETURN body Award finalist and an Emmy nominee; the film won the Tribeca Audience Award for Best Documentary, opened POV’s season, and was presented on Capitol Hill and in prisons across the country. Her 2019 film THE TWO KILLINGS OF SAM COOKE was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Documentary and multiple National Emmy awards. Her 2022 film IN THE BONES screened at festivals globally, including the Cinematheque in Paris. Kelly’s 2011 feature, BETTER THIS WORLD, won Best Documentary Feature at SFFILM, received an IDA Creative Achievement Award, and was selected for MoMA’s Documentary Fortnight. In partnership with The New York Times, Mother Jones, and The Nation, she also directed and produced a multimedia project, PROJECT TURNOUT, which explored changing election laws and their impact. Kelly has produced short-format work for IFC and Discovery, among others; has guest lectured at several universities and taught at UC Berkeley; and has served on multiple documentary juries, including the Independent Spirit Awards. She is a member of the Academy.
JESSICA ANTHONY, PRODUCER
Jessica Anthony (she/her) produced the award-winning film THE MASK YOU LIVE IN (Sundance/Netflix) directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom. In 2016, Jessica partnered with filmmaker Kelly Duane de la Vega to produce and direct the short film SUPREME COURT VS. THE AMERICAN VOTE NEW (New York Times Op-Docs). She produced director Guetty Felin’s narrative feature AYITI MON AMOUR, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in 2016 and was shortlisted for an Oscar. Alongside de la Vega, Jessica produced and co-directed the award-winning documentary IN THE BONES (Atlanta Film Festival 2022/Grasshopper Films). Her most recent projects include the upcoming documentary memoir VIVIEN'S WILD RIDE, an ITVS supported film by Vivien Hillgrove that follows a visual artist as she loses her sight, and IN WAVES AND WAR, a documentary directed by Jon Shenk and Bonni Cohen that follows a group of retired Navy SEALs who find hope through psychedelic-assisted therapy. Jessica is a Sundance Creative Producing Fellow, a member of the Producer’s Guild of America, and sings in a Bay Area rock band.
JON SHENK, PROUCER RR
JON SHENK (he/him) recently co-directed and shot the Oscar-nominated film, LEAD ME HOME(Netflix). Previously, he co-directed and shot ATHLETE with his film partner, Bonni Cohen, which was selected for the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival. Jon co-directed and photographed AN INCONVENIENT SEQUEL: TRUTH TO POWER (Participant Media/Paramount) which premiered on opening night of the Sundance Film Festival in 2017, was shortlisted for the 2018 Oscars, and was nominated for a 2018 BAFTA for Best Documentary. In 2016, Jon co-directed and photographed the Peabody Award-winning film AUDRIE & DAISY (Netflix), which premiered in competition at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. In 2011, Jon directed THE ISLAN PRESIDENT (Goldwyn Films), winner of the 2011 TIFF’s People’s Choice Award and IDA’s Pare Lorentz Award. Jon was awarded the 2004 Independent Spirit Award for directing LOST BOYS OF SUDAN (Shadow Distribution/PBS), served as the DP for the 2008 Academy Award-winning SMILE PINKI, and won an Emmy for BLAME SOMEBODY ELSE (PBS), 2007.
JUSTINE NAGAN, PRODUCERR
Justine Nagan (she/her) is an Emmy and Peabody Award-winning documentary producer and creative media executive. She is currently the Head of Production at Actual Films. Justine was previously the Executive Director of American Documentary, Inc. and an Executive Producer on its two signature series, POV (PBS) and America Reframed (World Channel). During her tenure, AmDoc launched POV Shorts, created several Artist Emergency Funds, and earned several Oscar nominations, and Emmy, Peabody, and DuPont wins. Films showcased during her time at AmDoc include THROUGH THE NIGHT, THE MOLE AGENT, SOFTIE, LAST MEN IN ALEPPO, DARK MONEY, HOOLIGAN SPARROW,and 93 QUEEN. Justine also executive produced POV’s first foray into episodic programming, AND SHE COULD BE NEXT. Additional credits include MINDING THE GAP, LIFE ITSELF, THE INTERRUPTERS, and THE TRIALS OF MUHAMMAD ALI. Justine has a certificate in Nonprofit Management from Harvard Business School and a Masters from the University of Chicago in the Humanities/Cinema and Media Studies. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, the PGA, and the Television Academy.
